FAQ

Making games

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You draw, place things and write dialog. Dialog scripting is there when you want choices and variables, and the Insert menu and blocks in Dialog write it for you.

Can I open a game I made in the Bitsy editor?

Yes. In Projects, choose Import and pick the .bitsy file or the .html page you exported from Bitsy.

Can I take my game back to the Bitsy editor?

Yes. Download the .bitsy file and open it at make.bitsy.org.

Why does my edit not show in Play?

Play takes a copy of the game when it starts. Choose Restart in Play to see your change.

Why does my sprite say nothing?

Check that the sprite has dialog in Dialog, and look at Problems. A dialog that points at a deleted room or item shows there.

Saving and limits

Where are my games saved?

When you are signed in, on your Chili account. The creator saves as you work, and the top bar says Saving…, Saved or Not saved. When you are not signed in, games stay in this browser only.

How many games can I keep?

30, released games included. One game can be up to 1.5 MB. See Projects.

How do I keep a backup?

Download the .bitsy file now and then.

Releasing

Why can I not release my game?

Releasing needs a verified email address. Open the link in the email Chili Platform sent when you signed up.

Do players see my edits straight away?

No. Players keep the version you released. Choose Publish update in Projects to send them your edits.

How do I sell my game?

Release it, then list it from your Library on Chili Platform. See List a game for sale.

VGC Zero

How do I play my game on the console?

Copy the .bitsy file into bitsy-games on the CHILICHIP drive. See Play on VGC Zero.

Why does the text break into pages in other places on the console?

citsy's dialog box has three lines, Bitsy's has two. See Differences from Bitsy.

Still stuck?
